The KV-1, a colossal 45-ton vehicle, was one of Russia's first heavy tanks employed during World War II, renowned for its near-impenetrable armor. German anti-tank weaponry of the time found it nearly impossible to breach its defenses, with only a lack of training and maneuverability allowing it to fall victim to superior German tactics. The massive size of the KV-1S enabled it to literally crush anything beneath its giant treads, causing enemy forces to abandon their positions at the mere sight of it. Its powerful 76.2mm cannon could still penetrate any contemporary German armor, rendering it unstoppable during 1941.

The KV-1 set the standard for how a heavy tank should be: nearly indestructible and capable of instilling terror in the enemy. Over the following years, it gradually fell out of favor but was used as the foundation for the next generation of heavy tanks. Developed alongside the KV-1, the KV-2 was designed for close-support operations against infantry, guns, and bunkers. Like its counterpart, the KV-2 was heavily armored and boasted an even greater size, standing at 12 feet tall. Armed with a massive 152mm howitzer, the KV-2 primarily became a bunker-buster, with an operational range of 140 km or 87 miles, leaving any enemy quaking in their boots, wondering if they could withstand such a barrage.

The KV1 heavy tank in Bolt Action can be used on a flank to distract your opponent or lead an assault supported by your tank riders, leaving your opponent quaking in their trenches. The KV2 self-propelled artillery gun, on the other hand, can be held back to pound the enemy, reposition, and open fire again, with nothing able to withstand a few direct hits.
